“Blues In The Night” is a blues song and is a jazz standard, and considered part of the “Great American Songbook.” The music was written by Harold Arlen, the lyrics by Johnny Mercer, for a 1941 film begun with the working title Hot Nocturne, but finally released as Blues in the Night. The song has been recorded many times. Some notable artists: Cab Calloway, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Chicago (with a guitar solo by Joe Perry of Aerosmith), Jimmie Lunceford, Woody Herman, Artie Shaw, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, Judy Garland, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Quincy Jones,Van Morrison, Art Pepper, Mel Torme, Joe Turner, and one of my favorite versions by Little Milton.
